On March 13, 2023, the United States Ministry of Internal Security announced that the agency would allow the extension of "humanitarian passport" status for residents of Ukraine who arrived in the United States at the beginning of last year and received the status for one year.
The representative of the Ministry stated that the candidatures of Ukrainian citizens, who received the status «humanitarian password» at the port of entry to the USA in the period from February 24, 2022, to April 25, 2022, will be considered subject to extension of this status for one more year. DHS estimates that the review process will take about four weeks. According to DHS, the employment authorization will also be extended for an additional year. In this case, the status holders are not required to submit any applications.
The innovation will allow citizens of the above categories to remain in the United States on legal grounds, and have permission to work, and the benefits granted to holders of this status.
It is important to note that the document will also allow persons not entitled to TPS to obtain an extension of status and is a long-awaited source of assistance for many residents of Ukraine who came to the United States before the introduction of the U4U program.
