Who is a P-1A Athlete?

If you are an athlete coming temporarily to the United States for the purpose of performing at a specific athletic competition, the P-1A classification applies to you. Specifically, this is granted to athletes performing at a specific athletic competition as:

  1. An individual athlete at an internationally recognized level of performance;
  2. Part of a group or team at an internationally recognized level of performance;
  3. A professional athlete; or
  4. An athlete or coach, as part of a team or franchise that is located in the United States and a member of a foreign league or association.

Furthermore, the P-1A visa also applies to professional or amateur athletes coming temporarily to the United States solely to perform in a specific theatrical ice skating production or tour, individually or as part of a group.

In Mr. Rebecki’s P-1A petition, it was supported by ample evidence that he meets at least two of the P-1A criteria  above and qualifies for the non-immigrant P-1 visa. Moreover, he seeks to come to the United States  on a temporary basis to continue competing in world championship level combat sports events. Mr. Rebecki is unambiguously qualified to be classified as a P-1A alien of extraordinary ability.
