P-1A Visa Status for Fighters - How to Get It Quickly?

A man with a beard is holding a p-1a visa

I have two World Class Boxers that will likely get their Tourist visas next week. If they get them I think it would allow for them to enter the United States more quickly? From your experience if they just have one fight for now, how much safer is it to get their P1 approval notices before the fight date in your opinion?

I would suggest preparing applications to be sent the moment they land in the United States.  This would get them quicker admission to the United States and I can change their status to P-1 while they are here. It is best to apply for a P-1 visa while there is a fight scheduled (confirmed through email, article, or boxrec), to help avoid requests for evidence.

Should the fighter obtain P-1A status before fighting with just one bout scheduled?

I recommend obtaining P-1 approval before the fight to avoid issues later with unauthorized work at the consulate. This is happening more often with fighters on B-1 visas and fights on boxrec.
